Half term round up from Mr Schumm

Dear Parents/ Carers,

With a deep sigh of relief and a very large silent cheer, we can all celebrate the fact that we have got to half term with our school having resumed business as usual in September. I know we are not out of the woods and there will be challenges ahead but a massive thank you to everyone in our amazing school community for pulling together and making this term not only possible but a tremendous success for your wonderful children. The aim was always to make this half term a ‘back to business half term’ with all the usual favourite events, lots of catching up and well-being activities. Sadly, the one thing I really miss is the social aspect of St Stephen’s but we will get there. FOSS are doing an amazing job and we have lots of virtual events planned and an amazing scavenger hunt for Christmas! Hopefully a mulled wine or two in the playground may be allowed by then?

Keep going St Stephen’s Prayer Group – He’s all ears!

This week we had the most amazing Black Voices Week and Design and Technology Day so please check out Miss Hall’s and Miss Bell’s blogs on the website. I spent DT Day with Year 1 making bags out of t-shirts listening to Ella Fitzgerald. As we weaved our t-shirts and the strains of Ella filled the air with ‘a tisket, a tasket I lost my yellow basket’ I was struck with a sense of calm and then the PVA glue got spilt and Ella launched into one of her ‘scat’ classics and suddenly 30 children were singing along – not a bad day I feel!

Today the children looked incredibly smart in their uniform as they had their photographs taken under the superior supervision skills of Miss Natalie and Miss Kayleigh. As soon as we receive the copies, we will send them out for parents to order.

And now for a word from our Shakin’ Stephens team….

Shakin’ Stephens is up and running again! This time with a new editorial team of 6 year sixes, Elijah, Eliza, Adam, Joshua, Imogen and Beattie. We are running an art competition for all ages, with the prize being the chance for your design to be the new front cover of Shakin’ Stephens. We are also welcoming more contributions, such as, artwork, book and film reviews, jokes, puzzles and lots more! The deadline for all contributions, including competition entries, is the 18th of November, anything later than that will not be included in this issue.

Thank You,

The New Shakin’ Stephens Team
