Highly Able English

Our Highly Able English program is taught by Mr Donal Coonan

Each term a selection of children, who are showing the highest levels of attainment in the subject, are brought together to complete a themed project where the children have the opportunity to apply their English skills to a variety of tasks.

Last term, we did a crash course in poetry (looking at rondelets, kennings and experimenting with iambic pentameter), honed our alliterative skills (what’s the longest sentence you can make with every word beginning with ‘a’?), produced recipes for different emotions (‘mix two cups of rage and sprinkle with some thumping heartbeats..’), turned the story of Humpty Dumpty into an epic tale of disaster and described Fireworks night using random words garnered from a game of word tennis.
